Routes, Accessible to parents with baby-strollers, Partly accessible
Object list
Olaine is located 25 km from Riga, and here it is possible to spend a great time in nature throughout the day.
The route can be started either at the Līdumu quarry or Mežezers path. The total route length between the trails is 13 km (without trail loops).
Līdumu quarry is located only half an hour’s drive from Riga, and there’s a nice path around the water reservoir, with benches, tables, grills and a playground for children. A coffee machine is also available. Toilets are not adapted for people with disabilities.
Start the hike along the right bank of the quarry. The beginning of the trail is paved. There is also an information board with a quarry drawing and trail route. After reaching the farthest point of the quarry, the trail continues along a gravel walkway and, upon reaching the other side of the quarry, a wooden footbridge begins.
The path is loop-type with a total length of 2,8 km, which will take about one hour at a brisk pace. The entire length of the trail is accessible in a wheelchair, but an assistant is still recommended, because the asphalt part of the road is not new, while the gravel part and the parking area, although quite flat and dense, can be difficult to pass here and there due to bad weather.
5 km further in the direction of Riga ether is the Olaines Mežapark, which can be reached with a bicycle on a cycling path or by car. In the park, you can go for another 3 km long walk along the park’s paths. The park has a spacious and modern children’s playground, many walking paths and the highest graffiti art work in the Baltics on the 45 m high water tower. Accessible toilets are available in the nearby Olaine District Municipality building.
On the opposite side of the highway, only 10-minute drive (6 km) from Olaine Mežaparks, you will reach the Mežezers path in Jaunolaine. The path goes around the lake, is 1,2 km long, really beautiful and accessible to visitors in wheelchairs.
In order to open the GPX file with the trail route on a mobile phone or computer, please install one of the hiking apps or maps, e.g., Wikiloc, Outdooractive, ViewRanger, OS Maps or any other GPX file reading programme or application.
