Olaine is located 25 km from Riga, and here it is possible to spend a great time in nature throughout the day.

The route can be started both in Olaine Mežapark and at the Līdumu quarry.

Līdumu quarry is a place that can definitely be called a small hidden treasure of Pierīga. Although this place is very popular with vacationers in the summer, those who like peace, quiet and walks near the water will like it here during the rest of the year.

Līdumu quarry is located only half an hour’s drive from Riga, and at the end of 2018 extensive improvement works were carried out here. A fantastic boardwalk has been built here, the area around the water reservoir has been improved, complete with benches, tables, grills and a playground for children. A coffee machine is also available. Toilets are not adapted for people with disabilities.

An asphalted road leads to the quarry, with a new and high-quality cycling path running parallel to it, which starts in Olaine itself. When you approach the quarry, you immediately see a really beautiful landscape.

We recommend starting the walk along the right bank of the quarry. The beginning of the trail is paved. There is also an information board with a quarry drawing and trail route. After reaching the farthest point of the quarry, the trail continues along a gravel walkway and, upon reaching the other side of the quarry, a wooden footbridge begins.

The total length of the nature trail is 2.8 km, which will take about one hour at a brisk pace. The entire length of the trail is accessible in a wheelchair, but an assistant is still recommended, because the asphalt part of the road is not new, while the gravel part and the parking area, although quite flat and dense, can be difficult to pass here and there due to bad weather.

If you want to exercise, you can go 5 km further along the recently built bicycle path that leads from the quarry to Olaines Mežapark, or you can go to Olaines Mežapark by car. In this park, you can go for another 3 km long walk along the park’s paths. The park has a spacious and modern children’s playground, many walking paths and the highest graffiti art work in the Baltics on the 45 m high water tower. Please note that there are no toilets available for people with disabilities in Olaine Forest Park yet, but they are available in the nearby Olaine District Municipality building.
