Object list
This medieval castle, built from 1204 – 1209 was the site of a major battle of the 16th century Livonian War. The castle was razed to the ground during the Great Northen war in the early 18th century. From that time no attempts were made to restore it even until the modern period and present day. A major restoration project was finally concluded in 2011, rendering the site accessible to visitors, and it has since began hosting major local and international cultural events, including shows, concerts and the annual Sigulda Opera festival.
The site can be reached by an asphalt road from the nearby New castle. An assistant’s help is needed to access the viewing platforms. An accessible toilet exists on-site, next to the ticket booth.
