After the declaration of Latvian independence in 1991, the Sigulda municipality started renovation of the previously forlorn castle in 1993. From 2017 to 2021 a major rconstruction took place to restore the outer facade and interior designs first were set up in1937, while preserving the castle’s historical framework and layout, also installing a staircase to provide access to the basement level. Since the restoration, the castle hosts a permanent exhibition covering the history of Sigulda, as well as the castle’s origins. A chair lift has been installed outside, and a bell button to notify the staff. The castle is equipped with an invalid-friendly toilet
