Description:

Accessible city walking route, i.a. accessible to people with visual impairment

The route shows the key touristic attractions in the centre of Liepāja and allows you to get to know the central part of the city through senses – touching, hearing, smelling. The route lead through various objects and sites, which one an get to know either by smelling, touching or hearing. Therefore the route will be truly exciting also for the blind visitors (assistant recommended, as the guideline in some stretches is missing).

Main objects of interest on the route:

Square of Roses

Kurzeme square

Reconstructed in 2013, the square features a tactile map with Liepāja centre and it is possible to understand also the size and main features of the Holy Trinity Church and RTU Liepāja academy, description in Braille available.

Swan pond at Jūrmala Seaside Park

Jūrmala Seaside park was established in the end of the 19th century to add beauty to the territory of the future resort, as well as purely of practical reasons – to limit the blowing of sand into the city. Swan pond has been made as part of the architectural ansamble. On the romantic island in the middle of the pond, visitors can walk along the boardwalk and listen to fountain ripples.

Tactile maps are also located at the Old port-side promenade, Jānis Čakste square and at the Jūrmala Seaside Park Central Rescue Station.
