The Riga Regional Court was founded on 5 December 1918. After the restoration of independence, it resumed its activities in 1995 as a court of first instance and appeal. It is the largest of the five regional courts of general jurisdiction in Latvia. The Riga Regional Court is housed in two buildings – the Criminal Court Collegium at 8 Abrenes Street and the Civil Court Collegium at 34 Brivibas Boulevard. Remote access to the court hearing is available, so there is no need to appear on the spot. The representatives of the institution informed that renovation works are planned for the building in the next few years, including the construction of an elevator. There is also a museum in the building, which they would like to make accessible (it is currently located in the basement and is not accessible to people with reduced mobility).
