On May 10, 1909, the cornerstone of the Church of the Cross was laid. Georg Armitstedt, the mayor of Riga, also participated in the cornerstone-laying ceremony. The Church of the Cross was finally completed in the fall of 1910. From 1915 to 1920, the Church of the Cross fell into a state of disrepair. Beginning in 1920, the congregation of the Church of the Cross began to gradually revive. The organ was installed in the Church of the Cross in 1931.
Behind the church is a parking lot for visitors. There are stairs leading to the church entrance, and a steep ramp with handrails on one side has been installed. With the help of an assistant, one can reach the top; the descent is a steep slope. There is no accessible restroom, and there are no signs.
