Object list
Since June 2023, an engaging historical exhibition about Põltsamaa Castle and the surrounding area has been open in the gatehouse and museum building. In the convent building, the exhibition begins in the cellar and spans 7 floors, culminating at the castle’s viewing platform – offering a beautiful view of the region! Additionally, a permanent exhibition “Modern Wine and Food from Põltsamaa” is open to visitors since summer 2024.
Description
The nearest car parks are located about a 200–300 m walk from the castle (step-free movement along the pavement). A person with a disability can park in a designated parking space near the castle’s main gate, and by prior arrangement it is possible to drive into the courtyard up to the building entrance. Parking in Põltsamaa Municipality car parks is free of charge. The castle courtyard can be entered through the main gate and the church gate.
The restored part of the castle ruins can be viewed from the outside; the viewing area has a level stone surface. The castle grounds have loose gravel, which makes movement difficult, including access to the Gate Building, where the accessible toilet is located. The toilet does not have space on the right-hand side, but it has grab bars and a baby changing table. The interior design is dark, and the light switch is located on the wall on the side where the door opens (black on black).
There are no tactile materials/maps, audio information, or guidance paths on the site.
Various guided tours and walks are offered. Pre-registration is required to book a guide service; information is available on the website (EST/ENG). Restaurant Oberpahlen has a children’s menu, and the Perekaart family card is accepted.
