This medieval castle, originally constructed as a bulwark against raiding Lithuanians, has been preserved and restored since 2002, in partnership and with the aid of the Dobele city council. In 2018, a joint ambitious project of restoration has seen the Chapel restored, along with a major redesign of the courtyard, both now serving as multifuctional cultural venues, known jointly as “Dobele Castle” The Castle was opened to the public in 2021. Entry free of charge for group I and II invalids, as well as for their assistants. Cloakroom equipped with special hangers , allowing convenient use for any customers in a wheelchair. Due to the upper level only being reachable by stairs, an interactive, audiovisual experience is currently in development to replace it. Awarded the 2024 award for accessibility “Bridge between ages”. No special parking available, although regular lots available on the castle grounds. Specialized bathroom, elevator and Braille labels available for accessibility. Guide dogs permitted.
