The Nattional Library building, known popularly as the “Castle of Light” from Latvian mythology, was opened to the public on August 29, 2014. Now being the largest public building in the entire country, it has several other functions rather than just being a repository for books, the landmark edifice at Mūkusalas street 3 also contains a conferrence centre, exhibition hall, a concert venue and a catering area.
