Established in 1919, the Academy is located at the neogoethic building previously housing the Commercial school of the Riga Bourse, the Academy was opened for tuition on October 12 1921, with 7 workshops. The building itself displays features of 20th century modern art, itself influenced by the Art Nouveau style.
The main door is only reachable by a staircase, however, an additional entrance with a lift for wheelchairs can be found at the rear of the Academy. The parking lot is also there, and can be accessed by dialing the attendant. Only the ground floor is accessible with a wheelchair, as no elevator to higher levels is available. Toilet for invalids likewise on ground floor.
