The aim of the Estonian University of Life Sciences’ Lake Museum is to provide high-quality environmental education.

Järvemuuseum offers diverse and practical environmental education for nature enthusiasts of all ages. Visitors can explore a live fish collection displayed in 35 aquariums. The museum also features interactive learning tools and exhibitions that support hands-on learning. It organises study days, educational programmes, nature camps, theme days, and public events for children, young people, university students, and adults. The programme selection includes both standard programmes and optional additional modules, such as fish identification and dissection, fishing instruction, nature hikes, workshops, and learning activities focused on lakes, birds, mosses, and other parts of the natural environment.

Description

At Järvemuuseum, the parking area is located behind a barrier gate. There are no designated parking spaces for people with disabilities. The parking area has a level, hard surface. The barrier gate is open on weekdays; on weekends, it must be opened on request at the information desk. If needed, it is also possible to drive up to the building after the barrier gate has been opened. From the barrier gate to the building, there is an approximately 170-metre walking route along a hard-surfaced footpath. There is an outdoor toilet in the parking area, but it is not accessible.

The café is located in the Limnology building, and the fish exhibition is in the yellow building on the right, which can be reached via the footpath leading right from the parking area. There are no obstacles or stairs along the access route in the museum’s outdoor area. A ramp leads into the building, and the threshold at the entrance has been levelled. On the first floor, there is a café and the aquariums. The first floor of the exhibition is dimly lit due to the display of the aquariums. To reach the second floor, a person must fit onto the stair lift, so it may not be suitable for everyone, but it is suitable, for example, for a person using a walking frame. There is a spacious accessible toilet on the first floor.
