Katariina Alley is a street in Võru that connects the historic town centre with the Tamula Lake waterfront promenade. The entire alley is paved with cobblestones.
Along Katariina Alley, there is a life-size bronze statue of Catherine II, as well as rest areas with seating and tables.
Soon (planned for 2026), Katariina Alley will also feature tactile site maps, mobility maps with audio description, and information about various locations and points of interest.
Description
Designated parking spaces are located in the immediate vicinity of Tamula Hotel.
Katariina Alley is covered with cobblestones along its entire length, which makes moving around significantly more difficult. However, parallel to the alley there is a paved path with an asphalt surface and lowered kerbs. For a person with a visual impairment, the cobblestone surface may serve as a guiding feature, at the end of the alley, keeping a few metres to the left, it is possible to reach the shore of Lake Tamula. On the way to the lake there is a park with a compacted surface and benches for seating on both the left and right sides.
There are steps in front of Võrumaa Museum. The ramp there is steep, but when approaching from the street, it is possible to use a gentler route in order to view the Catherine II sculpture.
The nearest accessible toilet is located at Võru Playa, which is open during the summer months, or at Kagukeskus on the second floor, the toilet key must be requested from the information desk on the ground floor. The toilets on the ground floor are fee-based.
