Jelgava Castle is a work of the early period of the famous architect Francesco Bartolomeo Rastrelli and one of the few architectural monuments of Jelgava that has survived to the present day. The largest Baroque castle in the Baltic States, former residence of the Dukes of Courland and Semigallia, administrative centre of the Governorate of Courland, today the headquarters of the Latvian University of Biosciences and Technology. From 2001 to 2018, the palace is undergoing restoration works. The Castle Museum organises guided tours. You can enter the palace through a door next to the main entrance from the courtyard.. There is an adapted toilet in the palace, but another grab bar is missing. There is a lift to move around the floors. The elevator buttons have information in Braille.
