This house at Baznīcas street 30, Riga, is the most authentic dwelling of the great cultural couple of 20th Century Latvian history, Aspazija& Rainis, having been the touched the least by redesign or decay. The building is a significant exmple of wooden residential structures at the very heart of the city. Both the building facing the street, as well as the back-yard cottage provide a glimpse into the poets’ lives, as, in opposition to other monuments and memorials, these buildings have once housed them, and seen the composition of some of their most important works. Aspazija purchased the house herself in 1924. and lived here with Rainis until his death in 1929, finally moving out in 1933.
Although indicated by no outward signs, the Museum is equipped with an elvator and a chair lift for wheelchair access, no thresholds complicating navigation between exposition rooms. A customized toilet IS available for invalids.
