The Dikli Song Festival Trail is special in that it contains 10 audio guide points. The audio stories have been voiced by actors Gints Grävelis and Juris Bartkevičs. In the audio stories, you can learn about the First Latvian Singing Festival, which took place in 1864. It is also possible to get to know the author of the idea of the holiday – parish priest and writer Juri Neikens.

The beginning of the approximately 3 km long trail is located in the center of Dikli near the “Top!” store. We recommend starting the route from the side of the Lutheran church, moving through the oak alley. The path to the church is smooth and accessible. From the church, you have to go back along the same road to the sign for the Neikenkalns nature concert hall.

A memorial stone dedicated to the First Latvian Song Festival has been installed on the Song Festival promenade. The first Singing Festival was also a challenge for its participants. The voting took time, it was the first time the choristers met in such a large group.

Access to the concert hall is not available due to the steep climb and loose sand, so it is preferable to follow the nature trail only up to the stage.

The trail is marked with an isosceles triangle-shaped marker with a yellow background and a note in the middle, where the apex of the triangle indicates the direction of the trail.

In Dikļi, we also recommend visiting Dikļi Castle, which is one of the most beautiful castles in Latvia. It displays the only collection of paintings by Latvian artists from the Renaissance period.

Nearby is the Viks Fairytale Park with wooden sculptures.

It is 115 km from Riga to Dikļi.

In the continuation of the route, we recommend going to the Vīsraga nature trail in Burtnieki. The Vīsraga nature trail is about 2 km long and leads through the Burtnieku manor park. Please note that Burtnieku manor is a private property. The nature trail has been created in the nature reserve Burtnieku ezeri pljavas. The trail leads through the park to Lake Burtnieku. One of the stops on the trail is an observation tower. From it you can see the lake and the Burtnieki church tower.

The observation tower is not accessible to people with mobility impairments. However, when walking along the path, you can see various information stands, which collect information about flora and fauna, and you can also see the castle ruins of the Livonian Order. In the manor park, a historically important event is reminiscent of itself – the place of the premiere of the 1988 rock opera Lāčplēsis. In the manor park, we recommend not going along the path to which the sign “Skatu toweris 700 m” leads, but along the adjacent Parka street.
