Traditional Music Center in Viljandi
Entertainment, Accessible to parents with baby-strollers, Accessible toilet, Partly accessible
Object list
The predecessor of the Traditional Music Center is one of the numerous outbuildings of the former Viljandi manor. This large rectangular stone building was constructed on the grounds of the medieval castle, on the northwest edge of the town-facing third outer bailey, where the castle’s stable and presumably the stable boys’ living quarters were once located.
Description
Parking spaces (2) are located approximately 100 m from the center on Tasuja Boulevard, on the slope of the Song Festival Grounds. The same parking lot is also intended for visitors of St. John’s Church. The stone-paved ramp (slippery when wet) is quite steep. The door opens outward, and there is a threshold of about 5 cm before the entrance (the door does not stay open on its own but can be fastened).
The reception desk with a cloakroom is located on the left upon entering. A platform lift provides access to the café and the fireplace hall on floor 0, where the information collection and rehearsal rooms, performers’ dressing rooms, and classrooms are located.
The toilet is to the left of the reception area, with access to a small hall. The main hall is located to the right upon entering through the main door. The balcony is not accessible for wheelchair users. We recommend visiting with a companion. There is a lift to the rooftop terrace, but there are three steps in front of the terrace. An elevator is available inside the building with a view to the ruins of the old Viljandi castle.
There is a ramp at the entrance, which is slightly steep.
Access to the stage from the backstage is possible with prior arrangement.
