Description:
The trail stretches along the Abava river, through the forest and crosses the mire with shrubby Cinquefoil (or so called – rock rose) bushes.
The trail is open the whole year, yet suggested in summer – the shrubby Cinquefoil Pentaphylloides fruticosa blooming time, as the nature reserve Čužu mire is the only place in Latvia, where the shrubby Cinquefoil grows in wild in such a large area. There is also number of other rare plants to be seen – birdseye primrose Primula Farinosa, fragant orchid Gimnadenia Conopsea, marsh hellerborine Epipactis Palustris etc. The mire is also appreciated by few protected butterfly species.
To reach the nice yellow flower bushes, visitors should go till the middle or till the end of the wooden boardwalk and step onto the well-trodden path which goes loop-type through the bushes. This stretch will be very challenging to parents with baby-strollers because of narrow wooden planks, tree roots and uneven path surface. And, unfortunately, this stretch is not accessible to wheelchair users. However, if you drive till the very end of the wooden boardwalk, the first part of the trodden path might be possible to be driven also in a wheelchair with the help of an assistant. Wheelchair users should note that the first trail stretch until the wooden boardwalk is gravel – the surface is pretty hard, even and wide, however it might be a bit hard to drive for some wheelchair types due to small gravel stones here and there on the path.
