Description:
Ahja Manor dates back to the Middle Ages (from the year 1553). The two-story baroque main building of Ahja Manor, with its hipped roof, was completed in the late 1740s and was one of the most luxurious in Southern Estonia at the time. Between 1929 and 1997, the manor housed a school.
In 2007, a fire occurred, leaving only the walls standing. Several outbuildings of the manor have survived, although most have been reconstructed. The beautiful park with a pond, which is protected both as a natural and heritage site, is also worth seeing. The manor and its park are known to many through the novel “Little Illimar,” based on the childhood memories of the folk writer Friedebert Tuglas, who was born in Ahja.
In addition, the park features mostly even and flat paths. It is possible to sit and spend time in the manor park.
