Highlights along the route include:
Pilssala Island and the shores of Lake Alūksne. A walking trail has been created on the island, along with fishing and rest areas for people with mobility impairments. The surface on Pilssala is made of gravel; in some places, the gravel is too coarse for people in manual wheelchairs to navigate independently.
Further along the route, you can stop for lunch at the “Benevilla” cafe, which also has an accessible restroom.
Afterward, you can go see the tactile map of the nuclear missile base in Zeltiņi. The base still has well-preserved hangars, missile launch pads, and bomb shelters. This is a highly classified military facility.
