On June 4, 2025, the Rõuge Cultural Center in southern Estonia will host the international forum “Accessibility in Tourism.” The event welcomes professionals, researchers, tourism sector representatives, and all interested individuals from Latvia, Estonia, and other countries. The forum is organized within the framework of the “Access Routes” project, supported by the Interreg Estonia–Latvia program.

The aim of the event is to foster cross-border dialogue and collaboration, as well as to share experiences and solutions that promote environmental and cultural heritage accessibility for various societal groups. Special attention will be given to practical examples and implemented initiatives in Latvia and Estonia.

Forum participants will learn about the activities of the “Access Routes” project and experiences in promoting accessibility in both countries. Project representative Astrid Org will discuss achievements and plans on the Estonian side, while Alise Lūse from the Kurzeme Planning Region will present best practices from Latvia and abroad on making cultural heritage sites accessible to people with various functional impairments.

The forum program will also cover other significant topics. Cultural heritage researcher Jānis Urtāns will introduce the universal design process and its implementation at the Cēsis Space Education Center. Meanwhile, Mari Puuram from Estonia will emphasize the importance of collaboration and co-creation in developing an inclusive tourism environment.

At the conclusion of the forum, Kristjan Kesküla and Indrek Veski, who use wheelchairs, will share their global travel experiences through their YouTube channel “Wheelchair Television.” Their stories about accessibility in countries like Brazil, Peru, and Thailand will serve as valuable inspiration for everyone.

The event will conclude with a discussion and an opportunity for participants to share experiences with one another.

Participation in the forum is free of charge, and it is also possible to attend online – a connection link will be sent to all who register in advance. The forum will be conducted in English.
