Description:
Lake Būšnieki is a wonderful destination for all active leisure lovers. The outstanding natural beauty here is accessible not only to those who enjoy swimming and boating, but also to cyclists, runners, ornithologists and those who love hiking. Everyone can enjoy the 9 km long nature trail, which stretches around the entire lake. The lake and the trail is accessible to wheelchair users!
The hike can be started at the Boating place or the Deer garden (Briežu dārzs) parking place. There are well-equipped swimming and picnic areas, ensembles of fish and bird figures inhabiting the lake and its area, info stands and direction signs all along the trail. Disabilities friendly swimming site is available near the Deer garden (Briežu dārzs) with a nice resting area and changing cabins. Floating wheelchair is available free of charge at the Deer garden reception (tel. +371 26099432).
In the marshy shore zone of the lake there is almost 200 m long wooden boardwalk with an observation platform for birdwatching – recommended to wheelchair users with an assistant.
The coast of Lake Būšnieki is a nature reserve that was established in 2004 to protect various biotopes of European significance. It is 49 hectares wide and is included in the European Protected Areas Natura 2000 network.
