Object list
Kiidjärve Visitor Center is located on the scenic banks of the Ahja River in Kiidjärve village. The site originally housed a forge (1912) that smelled of heated iron and metal smoke, later becoming Julius Õkva’s rural store, a post agency, and a communication point (1935). It was also home to the Kiidjärve communication office (1957-1981), the ETKVL store, and the Kiidjärve forestry district.
Surrounded by rich history and beautiful natural sights, the center is near attractions such as the Kiidjärve estate’s barn-dryer, a watermill, a tavern, Taevaskojad, the “ant kingdom,” Valgesoo bog, and the ancient Roiupalu forest. Visitors can access information on RMK’s recreational and hiking opportunities, local accommodations, dining, and active leisure activities. Additionally, maps of RMK hiking trails, recreation areas, and protected sites, along with souvenirs, are available.
Various programs and hikes are available for both children and adults, and the center organizes forest- and nature-themed events.
Description
When arriving to Kiidjärve Visitor Cente you will find a parking lot outside, however no specially signed parking spaces. The maps of nearby hiking trails are located in the parking area. There is a steep incline when heading directly down to the Ahja River, but the path is mostly smooth. The visitor center is accessible by a long, level (up to 12%) ramp. The ramp leads down to the center, and the threshold at the entrance is 7 cm high. The center’s balcony is accessible via a door that is 70 cm wide. Written informational materials are available for the exhibits, but the exhibits themselves (mainly stuffed animals) should not be touched. Information is also available via QR codes and informational boards in the outdoor area in both Estonian and English. The toilet lock is not easily operable with one hand, but there is enough space to turn it.
