Jaunmoku palace was built in 1901 and has served as the hunting and recreation lodge of the Mayor of Riga George Armitstead. On the 1st floor the palace exhibits Art Nouveau interior and history expositions. The 2nd floor features the Forest Museum with an exciting exhibition to get to know the forest and wildlife.
Jaunmoku palace complex is accessible to people in wheelchairs with an assistant:
– it is possible to comfortably access the spacious parking lot with a car;
– there is an even, stone-brick surface path leading to palace buildings;
– there are only stairs to get into the main palace building and currently it is not possible to access the palace independently in a wheelchair – therefore there is a bell button installed on the right side of the stairs to call for assistance and the palace staff will be happy to help getting into the building.
– there are almost no thresholds inside the palace and movement within one floor is comfortable and spacious;
– there are also only stairs leading to the 2nd floor and no lift has yet been installed;
– there is no toilet for the disabled in the palace, but they are provided in the hotel building.
There is a number of interpretation solutions for people with visual impairment – an audio guide in 4 languages, orienteering games, on the 2nd floor, at the Forest Museum, there is an exposition with tactile animal furs and other nature interpretation options. It is possible to touch almost all objects in the 1st floor exposition.
Nature paths in the palace territory are accessible to wheelchair users.
Palace manor house, where the hotel is located, is accessible to wheelchair users, yet it might be hard to move on the ramp leading to the hotel entrance, as it is quite long and steep ~ slope on average 20% – assistance is needed. The steep ramp might be an obstacle for electric wheelchair users. The rooms at the hotel are spacious, comfortable, with toilets accessible to disabled.
There is also an accessible cafe available.
