“Aldaris” Latvian Museum of Beer

This museum is both the most modern such facility in the Baltic states, and the first of its kind in Latvia itself. Located within the historical brewery at the Sarkandaugava suburb, this brewery/museum has recently attracted large foreign investments and undergone extensive renovations, although still preserving its historical fermentation equipment. Having re-opened in 2015, the Museum now displays its original copper stills, dating back to 1938, and is allowing visitors to themselves discover and experiment with the four basic components of beer production, namely water, hops, malt and yeast, all to create their own varieties of this historic Latvian beverage.
For an invalid to visit the Museum, notice must be given in advance. Entry via a roundabout route spanning approx. 400 meters. The brewery is large, has a somewhat-convenient toilet, has no thresholds or other obstacles. The basement likewise is only accessible by a roundabout route to circumvent a staircase. In summary, the Museum IS accessible, though an assistant’s help is necessary.
