At the Carnikava Local History Centre in Ādaži Municipality (7 Jomas Street), special equipment is available for short-term use – a hiking wheelchair and a wheelchair transport bicycle. This provides people with mobility impairments the opportunity to go outdoors together with companions and explore the surroundings of Carnikava.

The Joëlette Finisher hiking wheelchair is designed for people with mobility difficulties, allowing comfortable movement along forest trails, including those in the Piejūra Nature Park. It is equipped with a large, movable front wheel that ensures good manoeuvrability and makes it possible to travel over roots, uneven terrain, and sand with relatively little effort. The wheelchair can only be used with the assistance of a companion and is not intended for independent use.

The Van Raam Velo Plus wheelchair transport bicycle offers the opportunity to enjoy a cycling experience on smoother paths, such as along the embankment or the Carnikava promenade. The bicycle is operated by an assistant, while the passenger, together with their wheelchair, can easily roll onto a special platform at the front of the bicycle—without the need to lift them. This allows for a safe and comfortable shared ride.

The equipment is available free of charge during the opening hours of the Carnikava Local History Centre:

*Wednesdays, Thursdays, Fridays from 10:00 to 15:00

*Saturdays and Sundays from 11:00 to 14:00

To receive the equipment, prior reservation is required by calling +371 29128086. The terms of use are available separately.

This opportunity is useful not only for people with disabilities or mobility impairments, but also for families with seniors or others who may find it difficult to cover longer distances on foot. It offers a chance for everyone to go outdoors together, enjoy a hike, and experience the proximity of nature and the sea.

The equipment has been purchased within the framework of the INTERREG Estonia–Latvia Cross-Border Cooperation Programme project “Improving the accessibility of the Forest Trail and the Coastal Hiking Route for different social groups” (No. EE-LV00013).

Test users have noted that the hiking wheelchair is surprisingly easy to handle and allows movement even on softer sand, where a regular wheelchair would not be able to pass.
