On June 5, 2025, the barn of Tammistu Manor in Tartu County will become a meeting place for professionals from various fields, policymakers, and interested individuals to take part in Accessibility Day – a forum dedicated to creating an inclusive environment in tourism and cultural sectors. The event will run from 10:00 AM to 3:30 PM and will feature both lectures and practical workshops.

The day will begin at 10:30 AM with opening remarks from the Access Routes project team and Liisi Uder, Head of Disability Policy at the Chancellor of Justice Office in Estonia. This will be followed by an inspiring talk from Tom Rüütel about his travel experiences and their importance for personal development.

A discussion on accessibility in cultural heritage sites in Estonia and Latvia will be led by experts from both countries. Merle Kinks and Inga Raudvassar from the Estonian National Heritage Board will represent Estonia, while Māra Lāss from the Architecture and Arts Unit of the Latvian State Inspection for Heritage Protection will speak on behalf of Latvia.

European Capital of Culture initiatives will also be addressed – Lee Saarsen will share insights from Tartu 2024, and Laura Zvirbule will present the activities of the Great Amber Concert Hall in Liepāja and the city’s plans as the European Capital of Culture in 2027.

After lunch, from 2:00 PM to 3:30 PM, participants will engage in practical workshops. The discussions will focus on the development of accessible routes, the quality of services during visits, and content accessibility for diverse audiences. Best practices will be presented by Priit Põldme from the company Joonprojekt, audio description expert Kai Kunder. Jānika Juhansone, a promoter of theatre and cultural accessibility, will provide her opinion on content accessibility and creating a meaningful visitor experience, as well as best practice examples.

The event will conclude at 3:30 PM, after which participants will have the opportunity to visit museums in Tartu on their own.

Participation in Accessibility Day is free of charge. The event will be held in English. Interested participants are invited to register and attend either on-site in Tammistu or online – with full online access to the Rõuge forum on June 4 and partial online participation on June 5 from Tammistu.
