Object list
At the RMK Elistvere Animal Park, you can see animals primarily native to Estonian forests in a setting as close to their natural environment as possible. Originally created as a home for orphaned and injured animals, Elistvere Animal Park has now become home to the offspring of these animals as well as new residents obtained through exchanges with other animal parks and zoos. The park’s goal is to provide nature education and offer opportunities to observe wild animals in their natural habitats.
You can see wolves, European bison, elk, reindeer, roe deer, fallow deer, lynx, fox, raccoon dogs, pine martens, and stone martens. Indoors, you can meet guinea pigs, degus, and chinchillas. Among domestic animals, there are also rabbits. Due to the restrictions on keeping wild boars because of African swine fever, the boar enclosures are temporarily home to Thuringian goats and Estonian native sheep, as the enclosures are not structurally suited for other wildlife species.
Informational boards make it easier to learn about the animals. The nature trails, marked with explanations, allow visitors to explore beaver habitats and the diverse forest ecosystem.
Description:
The trail surface is mainly hardened soil, with a paved path that leads to a seating area on a slope. The trail is accessible for wheelchairs and strollers. In the main building, there is an accessible restroom. Assistance may be needed in certain areas. Separate accessible solutions for the visually impaired have not been provided. The area features signs and directions, and interactive solutions for children. The trail is navigable in spring and summer, with edging on the boardwalk, though some parts of the trail are deteriorated and accessible from the slope.
At the end of the trail, there is a viewing tower with a view of the lake. The small watching tower is not accessible to wheelchair users.
